What is Laser Dentistry?

LASER stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation and is used in dentistry for various purposes. It became popular in dentistry around 1989. Our chief dentist, Dr. Janu Shah, performs laser dentistry at Oris Smiles Dental Clinic.

Compared to traditional cutting and drilling, Lasers provide a more comfortable option. Dental Lasers can be used for various treatments like teeth whitening, treating hypersensitivity, and gum diseases.

How is Laser Dentistry done?

At Oris Smiles Dental Clinic, we categorize the laser dentistry procedures done by Dr. Janu Shah under two main categories.

Hard tissue Laser Dentistry procedures

  • Early detection of tooth cavities – Early detection can prevent the extensive spread of tooth decay.
  • Tooth preparation for a dental prosthesis – Dental Lasers provide great precision in tooth preparation. It eliminates the use of traditional cutting and drilling machines.
  • Tooth fillings – Dental Lasers can eliminate bacteria and improve the tooth’s long-term health after a tooth filling.
  • Treating tooth hypersensitivity- Dental Lasers can effectively combat Tooth hypersensitivity to hot and cold food items by sealing the dentinal tubules.
  • Laser Teeth whitening procedures- Dental Lasers can fasten the professional teeth whitening process by activating the whitening solution’s main ingredient, the peroxides.

Soft tissue Laser Dentistry procedures

  • Gummy smile treatment- Gummy smiles are the conditions in which most of the tooth is covered by gums. Dental Lasers rapidly remove or reshape the gum tissue to yield effective results.
  • Crown lengthening – Sometimes, the visible portion of the tooth in the mouth is insufficient to receive a dental restoration. Crown lengthening with the help of dental lasers is an effective way to combat such a situation.
